‘The Bachelor’ Stars Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell Break Up
Raise your hand if you saw this break-up coming?
Yeah, most of us predicted that this romance would go down south, but it didn’t stop us from saying: “Hot damn!” Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell met on Season 20 of The Bachelor and even though she accepted his final rose, it didn’t guarantee a lifetime of happiness. The beautiful but achingly boring couple even nagged a spin-off on Freeform aptly titled Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? but that should be cancelled after this news! (Seriously, who even watched this show? WHO?)
On Monday, the rose-loving couple released a joint statement about their decision to separate ways. “We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time,” Higgins and Bushnell stated to People.
It’s not hard to believe this happened, considering Higgins was a slobbering mess during the season finale of his season. The dude was so broken up about having to choose between Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher that it’s a miracle he even made a decision!
Although the couple kept up appearances of a seemingly perfect relationship, rumors of turmoil began to surround them in late January. “They just wanted different things. They had been struggling for a while…It was a mutual break up for the most part,” a source close to Bushnell revealed to E! News. “I think Ben would have kept wanting to make it work, though. It’s really sad. They’re both such great people, honestly.”
It was clear Higgins and Bushnell hit a rough patch back in February when she visited Nashville without her fiancé. Bushnell also spent a girls’ weekend in Punta Mita, Mexico for her 27th birthday sans Higgins and was spotted without her ginormous Neil Lane engagement ring on both trips.
“They don’t get along. She’s told people recently how hard it is,” another source previously told Us Weekly. “He’s a great guy, but they should split.”
Well, they certainly did!
